Sleepless in Dallas

Amelia is now two and a half weeks old, and my life is now a cycle of feeding, changing diapers and trying to get sleep whenever possible (easier said than done). I always thought I was a 'night owl' however since our daughter was born, I have changed my mind. Sometimes I find it so hard to stay awake in the early hours of the morning and after Amelia has been fed I often end up just passing out with her laying on my chest. I have discovered a new schedule of television programs within the hours of 2am to 5am, anything to keep me awake. Our dear little bundle does not like sleeping on her back at all, even if she is in a deep sleep, we will swaddle her and lie her oh so gently in her bassinet before creeping quietly into bed, but in less than 11 minutes she will be wide awake and crying as though we have laid her on a bed of nails. One solution we have found, other than letting her snuggle in bed with mum and dad, has been to put her in her bouncer where she seems pretty content for the most part.

On Wednesday, Amelia had her first doctor's appointment, it was Halloween and there were some strange looking folk in the pediatrics department. I am happy to report that all was well, she has gained more weight and since last Monday has gone from 7lb 9 1/2oz to a whopping 8lb 5 1/2oz, she is getting stronger every day and can hold her head up for a few seconds already, I sometimes call her 'my little turtle' because she has a slender little neck but her face is getting quite chunky. Her facial expressions make me giggle and I often wish I knew what she was thinking. She is getting cuter everyday and more alert too, and as challenging as being a new mum is, I am trying to make the most of every minute since I know time passes by quickly and I know she will grow up so fast.

"Sleepless in Dallas" that is too cute! Amelia is so adorable and I can't wait to meet her. She has so much dark hair, and such pretty little lips, I love it! And her little cheeks, I can't wait to kiss them. You are a wonderful Mum, and are doing a great job...
Just like we always knew you would! Hope you get some more sleep soon. We love you all!

Heidi, Amelia could be experiencing a little reflux, which may be why she prefers being slightly elevated in the bouncer or on her tummy (even in our arms, babies' heads are usually up a bit).

I totally remember watching all sorts of strange shows in the first few months of feeding. It gets better, or you just adjust.

I read this and had to laugh. We are having the same issues with Madeleine. She will sleep for 10 minutes and cry forever. She slept with us more nights than I'd like to admit. We have no solutions either. She does seem to sleep in the bouncer though. Hang in there!
